Blog #7: Starting 5/New beginnings

With only 26 days until opening night, new head coach, Keith Smart has released the starting five players for the Warriors. Of these people, he chose, Stephen Curry, Monta Ellis, Andris Biedrins, David Lee, and Dorell Wright. To me, starting five is a very important component when you are about to play a game. If you are a coach, your starting five has to consist of 3 types of players. First, you need a player that can handle the ball. This type of player has to be a decision maker, someone that is confident. This player is referred to as the point guard. For the Warriors, Stephen Curry will take on this spot. Next, you will need a shooting guard. This spot will be fulfilled by Monta Ellis. I'm not sure if I have mentioned this before, but Stephen Curry and Monta Ellis are one of the best back courts in the NBA. For a 'sucky' team, we have some great key players! Next we will need a small forward, power forward and one center. These positions will be played by Andris Biedrins, David Lee, and Dorell Wright.

With only 22 more days until opening night, I am getting a little anxious! Some players are beginning to have sore muscles, such as Curry and B. Wright. Although an injury isn't the BEST way to start out a new season, it's just something we need to overcome together. I will admit, it's tough being a consistent Warrior fan because of all the injuries, the losses, and the bad decisions the GM (general manager) makes. But enough of that negative energy! 2010-2011 is a new season, with new players, a new owner, new coach, and last but certainly not least, a new logo. The open patches have seemed to close itself up, and everything is starting to find its place! New friendships on the team are being made, and more fans are being built up. Although it is tough to be a Warrior fan, every single minute of it is worth it. One of the many feelings, is when they have beat a highly ranked team. It's not every weekend the 'sucky' team beats the best they can offer. I'm not saying Warriors can win every game thrown at them, but the temporary feeling it brings to you is just incredible. Words cannot express the adrenaline rush you get, or the joy you feel! When Warriors take the lead and finish off strong, everyone in the stands suddenly becomes your friend. You find yourself throwing high five's left and right! I have been waiting for quite some time for this feeling, so I am glad that the wait is almost over. Don't forget to purchase your single game tickets! It's never to late to buy them, and win or lose, just being there is worth every penny of the ticket.

Blog #6: Smart ball/Media day

With the '10-'11 season just around the corner, the Warriors are making their final adjustments! On Thursday, September 23, it was rumored that Don Nelson (head coach) was stepping down from his position. Nothing is finalized, but on the websites such as, GSOM and ESPN, they talk about how this might be accurate information. With the news of Nellie retiring, who will lead the way to the Warriors future? Keith Smart will! Although I am not totally sure whether this news is true or not, Keith Smart (Assit. Coach) will be taking over. Former Warrior players talk about how he was great, how he was a defensive thinker. Although they lost the NBA's all time winning coach, they still have hope. With a new coach, new logo, new players, and a new mind set, they can achieve the unthinkable. Don Nelson led the Warriors to the playoffs in '06-'07, making it their first time in 13 years.  Just this past season on April 7, 2010, he made history by being the coach with the most wins. His title is held at 1,333 wins. If the information about Nellie is true, it will truly be sad seeing a legend leave, but starting something new will be great to. He is a great coach, and forever will be. People refer to his style as "Nellie-ball" because he likes to run and gun, which basically means as soon as you get the ball, run it down the court and make a play. With Keith Smart leading the new path for the Warriors, I think his style will soon be referred to as, "Smart-ball". Did you see what I did with that? Until media announces on Monday if all these rumors are true, the wait is slowly chopping itself away!

As of my last entry, I talked about how today, Monday, would be the day we find out what will happen to the coaching staff. As the new season is coming up, Keith Smart will be leading the Warriors this season! Keith will be the Warriors 23rd head coach, so this is very exciting! I'm sure that all Warriors fans are excited for this new year! With everything being replaced, this season should be interesting and very intense as always! Today was media day, where all the players and coaches take pictures, and do interviews for press! On Yahoo!, images from a couple teams showed up, and Warriors happen to be one! Out of the images shown, there were a few of Monta Ellis, Stephen Curry and David Lee! Seeing all these pictures gets me even more excited for the upcoming season!

Blog #5: Change is good.

As I mentioned earlier, the USA Team took the gold, and this is my favorite player, Stephen Curry giving the world a little taste of what the gold looks like. The game premiered on ESPN earlier this morning at 11:30 so I got to watch the 2nd quarter after I came home from church. Honestly, I am not into watching basketball unless it's the Warriors, but I actually had a reason to watch it today. One reason being it was the final game, and the other reason was simply because of my one and only- Stephen Curry! It might seem like I am a 'dork' for liking him so much and having posts about him, but hey, I'm just a very big fan! Also, if you have a twitter, I would recommend that you follow the one and only, Stephen Curry!

On Monday September 16, the Warriors signed Louis Amundson, who previously played with the Phoenix Suns. He plays as a forward, so having him will help out because a lot of players that were traded were forwards, and trying to rebuild them is not easy! He signed a 2 year contract of $4.7 million, but the second year is his choice. Since our draft pick, Ekpe Udoh hurt his wrist during training camp, we probably won't get to play him until the end of December, or even worse, the end of January. Starting out with injuries isn't the greatest thing to happen to a rookie, but at least Warriors are making a move in getting him a backup!

In a previous post, I talked about Monta and Stephen, and how their relationship started out rocky, and very questionable to all the fans. On Friday, September 17, an interview of Monta came out on a fan website. It talked about how he is excited for this upcoming season, and how things have changed. He speaks about his relationship with Stephen, and how he made a mistake on commenting about him. He talks about how their relationship is becoming better, and how Stephen was even present in his July wedding! It's great to see that they are interacting outside of the court, and how Monta is being more open. In the article, he talked about how being a new father has greatly changed his whole perspective on everything. Also his newly wed wife has helped him get through all the problems that he has faced. She helped him realize that him and Stephen can work together, and she kept encouraging him that they will do good. He also talks about how she keeps him in check. Monta and his wife, Juanika have been together for 4 years, and they finally tied the knot together this past July, so keeping him in check wasn't anything new. As the rumors about Monta's comment surfaced, she told him that, it was wrong. Monta has sure done a lot of growing up and maturing. He first came to the team as the "baby", but as of today, he is the leader, the one who all the rookies on the team look up to for guidance. He says, "A month before the season was over with, I really had to sit back and blame myself in a sense because I'm that leader; I'm that one who everybody feeds off of."

Blog #4: Update.

It's sad to say that there are only 6 players from last season that are coming back this year, one of which didn't get to play at all last season due to a shoulder injury. Two other players also barely played due to  injuries, and a trade during the beginning of the season. We probably have an unstable team, but I think that Warriors grew to have a special bond. For example, During the beginning of last season, when Stephen Curry was still a rookie, Monta Ellis made assumptions that he wouldn't be able to play together with Steph. It seemed like a game of who was better. Monta probably felt like no one respected what he did anymore because all cameras were on Stephen. On tv, it seemed as if Monta was mad, like there were always bad vibes, but in the middle of the season, things started changing. Monta started smiling on the court again, and power plays were made between Monta and Steph. At the end of the season, an interview was put out and Monta expressed "He proved people wrong- He proved me wrong." Seeing them have this type of bond in the picture, gives off positive vibes for not only the team, but for the fans.

In other news, Team USA played today in Istanbul against Turkey for the gold, and captured the victory! Today marked a special day for the USA basketball team. "For the first time since 1994, the USA Men's World Championship team won the gold medal in the FIBA World Championship. Behind Kevin Durant's 28 points, the USA defeated host nation Turkey, 81-64, on Sunday in Istanbul to stand alone atop the international basketball world." I'm very happy for the team, and also Stephen Curry for working hard on the court and representing the GSW! Good job to him and all of the men on the team. Only 44 more days until Warriors season opener, which means only about a month and a half until all the exciting plays and the adrenaline rush comes! Don't forget to tune in to your favorite teams!

Blog #3: 55 days, 19 hours and 47 minutes.

Until opening night! Last night, I was on warriors.com trying to see the different game package plans and ticket prices for single games. I was curious on when the Warriors would have their open practice, so I decided to chat with a Warrior's representative. As I was waiting for the rep. to sign on to my chat, I looked at different prices and seats for opening night. Once the rep. came to my chat, I asked a handful of questions, but my main question was, "When is the Warrior's open practice going to be?" I was responded with, "October 6!"At first I was really excited, until I realized that I probably won't be able to go since October 6 is my mom's birthday! As sad as I was, I decided to look at all the positive things that would happen.

In other news, the USA team played Brazil a few nights ago! Although I wasn't able to watch it, since it was during school hours, I was informed that my favorite player, Stephen Curry, did not get a chance to play! =( It's okay though, because at least they snatched a win, and I heard it was a really good game since they won by 2 points! There was another game today, and Stephen Curry got to played extended minutes! He finished with Four points, five assists, and four rebounds. Blog #2: Chef'n Curry

Chef'n Curry being his new nickname because of the things he is capable of doing. I thought this post would be perfect timing because Stephen Curry is officially on the USA team representing the Golden State Warriors. Although he doesn't play in every single game, at least he is having a chance to show what he has. This was a big opportunity for him, and I'm glad that he went through the hard work to earn his well deserved spot on the team. 

In other news, hopefully I will be on my way to the Oracle Arena to experience the energy that I have been craving since the last Warrior's game. Opening night it probably one of the best games to go to since everyone has been waiting patiently for about 3-4 months. The game is usually a sold out game, and tickets start to disappear pretty fast, but I have been planning our October 27 very carefully. My friend and I are planning to sit in section 124 in row 1, but the problem is buying out ticket. Those seats range from $70-$95 depending on what row we choose to get. In my opinion, those are great seats because they are right next to the tunnel that the players come out of. I have never been to an opening night game, but from my t.v. screen, it looks very similar to a playoff game like in the picture shown above. As you can see, all seats are taken. I am looking forward to this day, and if you ever get the chance, I think that opening night is a must-go-to-game!

Blog #1: I'm just an ordinary girl..

But I am capable of a lot of things such as sharing my thoughts on basketball. Just because I am a girl, doesn't mean I don't understand the concept of basketball, or how it feels to be playing basketball. I have been playing basketball since I was in the 2nd grade, so I think I can explain a game to someone pretty well. Just watching basketball gets my adrenaline going - especially if the team playing is the Warriors. I have a small obsession with them, I confess. Although they are categorized as a "sucky" team, I beg to differ that they do have potential. During the end of the season, teams were ranked on how well the point guard and shooting guard worked together, otherwise known as the back court. A no brainer for the best back court in the NBA was Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol of the Los Angeles Lakers. Not to far behind was Monta Ellis and Stephen Curry, of the Golden State Warriors. This made me realize how well the Warriors play together. They might not be the best team, but they have players with potential. Another thing that made me realize their potential was during the All Star weekend. Unfortunately, Monta Ellis did not make the roster for the All Star game, which had me very disappointed. To me, he is one of the best shooting guards in the league, and yet, his talent went unnoticed. I felt that they did not want to have him be apart of the roster because of his team image with the Warriors. I wish that they noticed Monta for who he is, rather than what team he is apart of. Don't get me wrong, I love the Warriors, but it is tough being a fan. Hopefully this upcoming season, his talent will be recognized, and I am crossing my fingers that he has another chance to make the All Star team.

What my blog is going to be about?

I have always been interested in watching sports since I was a young girl because I grew up with two older brothers. My mom and dad were at work a lot, so I would be home with my grandparents stuck on the couch watching whatever my brothers felt like watching. One sport that stands out is basketball. I have always had a liking for this sport because the competition gets so intense during the final seconds. I have many favorite basketball teams, but my number one favorite would have to be the Golden State Warriors. I'm probably not an expert when it comes to the history of all players, but I think I know enough to be categorized as a fan. This blog is going to be strictly about the GSW and what I think and feel about them. If you didn't know what my name was before reading this blog, you would probably think I am a boy since most girls don't take this much interest in sports. A boy could probably tell you more than what I have to say, but I think with this blog, I'm going to be "one of the boys".
